History
Founded in the late 1800s, the Sammamish plateau has historically been an unincorporated part of King County. In the 1970s and 1980s, the growing population of residents sought a more independent path, and in 1999, voted to incorporate their blooming community as its own municipality.
The city’s motto, “Building Community Together,” speaks volumes about the shared values and experiences of those who choose to call Sammamish home. Local schools are effective, well-funded, and supported by active local parents. The city of Sammamish is safe and community-minded, credible by its consistently low crime rate, currently 90% below the national average.
